题目：Fringe Computing: Towards Service-Oriented Utility Computing
Abstract：The explosion of connected end devices, new services/applications, especially when IoT/vehicle network/VR technology arrive, leads to huge amount of data (e.g. video, voice, IPTV, file sharing, interactive gaming, M2M communication data) generated every second. The data process and security bring critical challenges and higher requirements. Although the traditional solution cloud computing is useful and convenient, sometimes, it has its own challenges and issues as well, especially in the era of IoT/IoE, such as remote data processing causes high latency with long routing path, centralized computing model causes high traffic burden and computation burden at the aggregation point, and the scalability issues of the numerous intermediate nodes. Based on these careful observations, we intend to design a new computing paradigm working as a supplement to cloud computing. This new computing paradigm is about computing at the “extreme” edge, and implements local processing, storage and networking, aiming to elevate the edge network to be a true shared computing platform to meet with the requirements of future network scales and new emerging services. This new computing paradigm potentially will bring a number of benefits. Firstly, it can provide on-demand elastic storage and computation resources for end users. Secondly, it enables more powerful applications on low-end devices and augmented services with better user experience. Thirdly, it provides a general and multipurpose platform that gives strong support to IoT services. Last but not least, it is good for dismantling the monopolies and throwing off reserves, which can help innovate new business model.
